What we collect, and what we don't.

A movement about respecting people's attention should respect their information too. This notice explains, in plain language, what this website collects, why, for how long, and who can see it.

Reading this website

You can read every page without giving us anything.

  • There are no accounts for visitors.
  • We set no cookies of our own. Our advertising partner, Google, may set cookies — see below.
  • The only third-party script we load is Google's advertising script. Our visitor statistics are our own.
  • Our own systems do not store your IP address.

To cover our running costs, some pages show advertisements from Google AdSense. Ads never appear on this page, the contact form or the support page.

  • Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, which may be based on your visits to this and other websites.
  • You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ad Settings, and learn how Google uses information from sites like ours at policies.google.com.
  • In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, you are asked for your consent before any of this happens.
  • We never share anything we collect with advertisers, and advertisers have no say over what we publish.

Some pages offer videos of experts. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video comes from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube receives your IP address and may set cookies under Google’s privacy policy. Photos and everything else on the page come from this website.

Like any website, ours runs on a hosting provider (Railway), whose systems may briefly record technical details of requests, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the service running. We do not copy these into our own database.

Counting visits

To learn which pages people find useful, we count visits ourselves, without cookies and without any outside service.

  • When a page opens, your browser tells our server which page it is, which site linked to it (if any), and later how long the page was on screen.
  • From that request we note your country, whether you use a phone, tablet or computer, and your browser and operating system — then discard the details they came from.
  • To count visitors without identifying anyone, your IP address and browser details are scrambled together with a random value that changes every day and is then deleted. Only the scrambled result is kept: it cannot be turned back into your address, or used to link your visits on different days.
  • If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is counted.
  • Visit counts are kept for 13 months. Only our admin team can see them, and only as totals.

If you contact us

Three parts of this website collect personal information: the contact form, the sign-up form for joining the movement, and the school registration form. When you send a message, we keep:

Your name
So we can address our reply to you.
Your email address
So we can reply.
The topic you choose
So the right person reads your message.
Your message
Because it is the point of writing to us.
Confirmation that you are 18 or older
The form is for adults; we record only that you ticked the box.
When it arrived, and when we dealt with it
So we know what needs a reply, and when to delete it.

With your message, we do not keep your IP address, your browser details or your location. We hold your address in memory only, for up to an hour, to stop the form being flooded with spam; it is never written down.

If you join the movement

When you join, we keep:

Your name and email address
So we can write to you about the movement.
Where you live, if you tell us
So we can organise local groups.
Which describes you best, and your school or organisation if you give it
So we know who can help where — for example, with schools.
How you would like to help, and your note if you write one
So we can ask you for the right things.
The language you joined in
So we can write to you in it.
Confirmation that you are 18 or older, and when you joined
The form is for adults; we record only that you ticked the box.

As with messages, we do not keep your IP address, your browser details or your location. If you join again with the same email address, nothing changes: we keep the details you gave first.

If you register a school

Registering a school is optional; the kit is free without it. When a member of staff registers, we keep:

Your name, your work email address and your role
So we can write to you about the kit. Only staff can register: teachers, counsellors, principals and other adult staff.
The school's name, country and state or region, and its city and website if you give them
So we know which schools use the kit, and where. The state is required for schools in India; the website helps us check the school exists.
Which age groups would take part, and roughly how many students, if you say
So we know which version you need and can plan. Never published for any school.
The school's official ID, if you give it
For example a UDISE code in India, so we can check the school exists.
The language you registered in
So the links we send open the website in it.
Confirmation that you are adult staff, and when you registered, confirmed your email, and were approved
We record only that you ticked the box, and the dates. Nothing about any student is collected.

We then email a link to confirm the address is yours, and once our team has checked the school, a short message saying it is approved, or that we could not approve it. Later we write only when the kit changes. As with the other forms, we do not keep your IP address, your browser details or your location.

These emails are sent by Resend (resend.com), an email service based in the United States. It receives your email address and the text of each email in order to deliver it, and handles them under its privacy policy. We have not turned on its tracking of opened emails or clicked links.

How long we keep it

Every message is deleted automatically 180 days after it arrives, whether or not we have replied.

If you join the movement, we keep your details until you ask us to remove them, and we review every sign-up that is more than two years old.

If you register a school, we keep its details until you ask us to remove them. A registration whose email address is never confirmed is deleted after 7 days, and one we cannot approve is deleted 30 days after we decide.

You can ask us to delete a message sooner, or to remove you as a supporter or a registered school, by writing to info@reelfreenation.com. Deletion is permanent. Copies may remain in our hosting provider’s database backups until those backups expire in the ordinary course.

Who can see it

  • Only the small number of people on our team who reply to messages and organise the movement. Their accounts are protected by a password and a second sign-in step.
  • Messages are never published, sold, used for marketing, or added to any mailing list.
  • Supporters' details are never published, sold, shared, or used for advertising. We use them only to write to you about the movement and to organise local groups and school work.
  • The same goes for registered schools' details, which we use only to run the school programme. We may publish how many schools have registered, in total or by country, but never a school's details.
  • They are kept separate from everything else we do, and will never be linked to survey responses.

If you write to us by email

Emails sent to info@reelfreenation.com are received by our email provider. We keep them only as long as we need them to deal with your message.

Children

The contact form and the sign-up form are for people aged 18 or over. If you are younger, please ask a parent, guardian or teacher to contact us or to join.

Only adult staff can register a school, and registering collects nothing about students.

What is not collected yet

The national survey is not open. Before it collects anything, we will publish exactly what it collects, why, how long it is kept, who can see it, and how to remove it — and update this notice.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info@reelfreenation.com. We will answer as quickly as we can.

If this notice changes, the date at the top will change with it.
